Being dark is like being evil where you say the end result was for someone to learn to behave for the good of others.
Like getting the point across that you don’t want your apples stolen by coming over to scare your neighbor with a shot gun warning them not to steal from you.
They didn’t steal from you or anyone ever again.
You could have chosen a lighter more peaceful strategy, one that was less risky, because the guy could have had a shot gun of his own and you died.
